THESE ARE THE MINUTES OF A COMMON COUNCIL MEETING OF THE 27TH COMMON COUNCIL, HELD AT 7:45 P.M., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2007, IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF BROOKFIELD CITY HALL, 2000 N. CALHOUN ROAD, BROOKFIELD, WISCONSIN 

COUNCIL PRESIDENT STEVEN PONTO PRESIDING (in the absence of Mayor Jeff Speaker)

 ALDERMEN PRESENT:  Scott Berg, Gary Mahkorn, Steve Ponto,  Rick Owen, Christopher Blackburn, Bill Carnell, Lisa Mellone, Ron Balzer, Mark Nelson, Jim Garvens, Dan Sutton, Jerry Mellone, Mike Franz, Bob Reddin

 ALDERMEN ABSENT & EXCUSED:  None

 ALSO PRESENT:  City Attorney Karen Flaherty, City Clerk Kris Schmidt, Director of Finance Robert Scott, Director of Human Resources Jim Zwerlein, Economic Development Coordinator Pat Drinan

 Council President Steve Ponto called the Common Council to order at approximately 7:45 p.m.  Council President Ponto announced that he would be voting as 4th District Alderman for this meeting.

No one spoke during the 15 minute segment set aside for citizens to address the Council.

The next Common Council meeting will be December 18th (with a Common Council party following).  The public hearing regarding Fountain Brook Crossing was cancelled for this evening.  The public hearing is tentatively rescheduled for January 15th.

Economic Development Coordinator Pat Drinan and Alderman Jim Garvens presented the Third Quarter 2007 Featured Business Award to Liz Weldelberger and Stacy Murphy from M&I University.

 Alderman Gary Mahkorn led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.


 ACTIONS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

CONSENT AGENDA

 Alderman Berg moved approval of the items on the Consent Agenda, except for Item #8.  The motion was seconded by Alderman Garvens and carried unanimously.  Recorded as a roll call.

 1)         Minutes from the Regular Common Council meeting of November 20, 2007.

 As recommended by the Finance Committee

 2)         Vouchers exceeding $50,000 requiring immediate action. 

3)         Resolution approving electronic filing and signatures for submission of personal property tax returns.  Resolution No. 7815-07*

 

4)         Resolution approving the appointment of M&I Investment Management Corporation and Dana Investment Advisors, Inc. as investment advisors for the City of Brookfield.  Resolution No. 7816-07*

(All licenses granted subject to further administrative approval)

 

5)         Original Bartender Licenses (see Legislative & Licensing Committee agenda for names).

 

6)         Original Class B Beer and Class C Wine license:  Piscitello’s Pistro LLC; d/b/a Piscitello’s Bistro; 17700 W. Capitol Dr.; Joe T. Piscitello – Agent.

 

7)         Temporary Class B Beer and Wine license:  St. Luke Congregation; 18000 W. Greenfield Ave.; for their auction on February 23, 2008; 5-11:30 p.m.

8)         Alderman Berg moved approval of the Appointment of Election Inspectors (Pollworkers/ Chairmen) and Special Voting Deputies.   The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn and carried unanimously.

10)       Legislative Referrals and Request for Services: 

            a.         Alderman Balzer requested that the Legislative & Licensing Committee amend the Municipal Deposit Schedule with changes requested by the Police Department.

            b.         Alderman Jerry Mellone requested the Aldermen receive correspondence he had relative to the Calhoun Road widening project/ bridge replacement at an upcoming meeting in light of possible delays by the State relative to bridge replacement.

 

 

11)       Alderman Berg moved to adjourn.  The motion was seconded by Alderman Nelson and carried unanimously.  8:00 p.m.
