THESE ARE THE MINUTES OF A REGULAR COMMON COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT 7:45 P.M., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2000, IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF BROOKFIELD CITY HALL, 2000 N. CALHOUN ROAD, BROOKFIELD, WISCONSIN MAYOR KATHRYN BLOOMBERG IN THE CHAIR ALDERMEN PRESENT: Gary Mahkorn, Jim Heinrich, Michael Jakus, Richard Brunner, Thomas Schellinger, Scott Berg, Kari Clappier, Brad Steinke, Steven Ponto, Karl Schulz, Don Bauer, James Garvens ALDERMEN EXCUSED: Daniel Waffenschmidt, Howard Washechek ALSO PRESENT: Asst. City Attorney Karen Flaherty, Director of Finance Robert Scott, Director of Public Works Tom Grisa, Director of Administrative Services Dean Marquardt, Interim Police Chief Dan Tushaus, City Clerk Kris Schmidt, Asst. Fire Chief John Dahms Mayor Bloomberg called the meeting of the Common Council to order at approximately 8:00 p.m. The next Common Council meeting will be January 16, 2001. Alderman Clappier led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Alderman Schulz moved approval of the Regular Common Council minutes of December 5, 2000. The motion was seconded by Alderman Bauer and carried unanimously. ACTIONS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL FINANCE COMMITTEE - Alderman Garvens, Chairman Alderman Garvens moved approval of the Vouchers exceeding $50,000 requiring immediate action. The motion was seconded by Alderman Heinrich and carried unanimously. Alderman Garvens moved approval of the Resolution relative to the Agreement for legal services between the City of Brookfield and Attorney E. Joseph Kershek, commencing on January 1, 2001, and ending December 31, 2001. The motion was seconded by Alderman Schulz and carried unanimously. Resolution No. 6680* Alderman Garvens moved to deny the Notice of Claims: David Kurtz, Lyle Peters, Edward Staub, and Joseph Calabria. The motion was seconded by Alderman Brunner and carried unanimously. Alderman Garvens moved approval of the Request of the Director of Public Works to purchase sewer televised camera equipment (purchase and installation) from Aries Industries, Inc. and Getum, Inc. for $78,830. The motion was seconded by Alderman Bauer and carried unanimously. LEGISLATIVE AND LICENSING COMMITTEE - Alderman Jakus, Alderman Alderman Jakus moved approval of eight original bartender licenses, tabled one and denied one original bartender license. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn and carried unanimously. Alderman Jakus moved to table the Appealed Bartender License. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn and carried unanimously. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION - Alderman Schulz, Chairman Alderman Schulz moved approval of the Resolution relative to the purchase of 33.127 acres of wetlands from the Simon Group Ltd. for open space preservation for $34,800. The motion was seconded by Alderman Heinrich and carried unanimously. Resolution No. 6681* PERSONNEL COMMITTEE - Alderman Ponto, Chairman Alderman Ponto moved approval of the Resolution relative to bonuses for certain employees. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn and carried unanimously. Resolution No. 6682* COUNCIL AS A WHOLE Alderman Jakus moved approval of the Resolution commending Jerry Keuper for 34 years of dedicated service to the City of Brookfield Highway Department. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn and carried unanimously. Resolution No. 6679* Alderman Steinke moved to adjourn.
