The City Clerk's office administers elections, including notifying candidates of the rules set by state law and city code.  This message was sent out in response to problems during  the recent primary:

This may all seem petty, but candidates take it very seriously.  I think it's because there are no credible polls for aldermanic races - they're just too small.  You can't really believe what the blogs say because that's just one person.  About the only tangible thing you have is how many signs are visible.

 

Remember the January 16, 2007 article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article describing how mayoral candidate Cindy Kilkenny knowingly purchased and placed campaign signs exceeding the city code?  I guess back then rules only applied to other candidates.
